What it does
WalletWise is a simple personal finance app. The home screen shows your total balance, income and expenses, followed by your recent transactions. Adding a transaction takes one screen: amount, title, category, and whether it is money in or money out.
How it is built
- Mobile app. React Native with Expo and file-based routing through Expo Router. Sign-up and sign-in are handled by Clerk.
- API. An Express server with routes to create, list and delete transactions and to summarise a user’s balance.
- Database. Serverless Postgres on Neon, queried through Neon’s serverless driver.
- Rate limiting. Every request goes through an Upstash Redis rate limiter, so one client can’t flood the API.
- No cold starts. The API runs on a free hosting tier that sleeps when idle, so a scheduled job pings it every 14 minutes to keep it awake.
